Combat Jump Shots » Fun Things to Do On A Boring Weekend

Lying on my room reading e-book and eating pancit canton -- this is what I usually do during weekend and I realized how boring it really is behind my dusty gray walled cube. Though sometimes it is really nice to just lie on my bed, surf the net and sleep the whole day after a hell week at work, still it is awesome to spend the weekend outside kicking my lazy butt on a sunny day.

This half of January has been a crazy whirlwind of a little good and a whole lot of bad at work and everything else. Most working days, I wish I could just have that provincial mundane life everyone complains about – you know, the oh so slow days in the province with ricefields and mountains.

I’m trying to make a point here, alright – that most of our weekend is boring. But enough of my senseless nostalgic rants.

I did go to Antipolo last week at one of our crew’s crib. A friend invited me to tag along for the dinner invitation. Technically I’m gatecrashing on that Friday dinner, but what the heck, that’s the whole point of fun ayt? Dinner was filled with awesome food, booze and small talk. We stayed overnight then hmmm, what else has happened? NONE. The booze didn’t hit the right synapse so we end up normal.

But hey, we didn’t go this far, on this mountainous city just to spend another boring weekend. It’s a good thing Aldan got his DSLR. As you may have notice on this blog, me and my friends are certified camwhores.

We decided to go out and take a little out of the box jump shots. We want to look at some ways to break out of the mold and take striking photos by breaking (or at least trying to change) the pa-cute photo shoots we usually had and adding a little randomness into our jump shots.

This is how we break our supposed-to-be boring weekend.Hiyaaaaa!!!

Yodz and Bernard initial fight

See what a little posing can do for your jump shot?
Lady Gara and her magic toothpick fighting against Bernard
More of like Pandango dancing than fighting...
You cannot kill me guys!!! I am Master Yodi!
Another Pandango-sa-ilaw fighting technique from Lady Gara and Bern
I said you cannot defeat Master Yodi!!!
Nice try Evil Anjho! Let's fight till the end.. Hiyaaaa!!!
This is my favorite shot - with facial expression and a cool combat pose. Nice!
In the end, we will all go to Heaven....

We were all amazed by the result of our quick photo shoot - it was surprising and quite funny. This look like a bit silly but that's the point of having fun ayt?

If you’ve got your own special jump shot, I ask that you post a link to it or post it here on my comment section.

May you always have great weekend guys!!!

What to Do with Your Random Photos

We love taking pictures – it is a fact. During events like company outing, anniversary, or just a simple dining out with friends, it is our habit to take random photos – for Facebook, for Friendster (I think this site is already dead), for fun, or simply just to kill boredom.

Over time, these photos eat up a lot of our pc’s disk space, so from time to time, we take time to delete those not-worth-saving pics (but most of the time, they are all worth saving.)

During one of my bored to death weekend – that means no internet due to some software glitch, no date and broke – I randomly browse old photos, to at least lessen my weekend frustration and also to free up some disk space.

I came across these old photos and got an idea of making comic strips out of it. I realized these photos are so funny and random, you can make funny or tragic stories out it. I put the photos in sequence depending on my storyboard, included some text, background music and compile it using Windows Movie Maker.

Here are the results:
Clip Title: Ang Trahedya sa Lagos – (The Lagos del Sol Tragedy)
We took these photos during our company outing in Lagos del Sol Resort in Laguna along Caliraya Lake.

The Crazy Side of Me - Livin' la Vida Loca

We made this cool video during one of our barkada trip at Enchanted Kingdom. On the left is me, my friend Bar (center) and Stup.
This is my way of telling you people that, yeah, I can be funny and crazy sometimes.

Sometimes the only way to have a life is to commit to it like crazy.

Escaping the hullabaloo of my daily life

How does someone who is insanely busy manage to downsize stress? I tried doing it the man’s way – ending a toxic day with vodka and beer, late night gig, sleep-all-day-Saturday, coffee & peanuts, remote control & Sci-fi movies – but on the following day it was too hard to kick-start the whole brain again. Stress just pile up.

In my search to simplify life – and put an end to my fatal indecision – I realized that the perfect way to break the cycle of stress is to have a change of scenery – a day or two with nature best suits me.

Accordingly, I woke up at 6:00 am last Sunday, grabbed few stuff and headed to Subic Bay – Olongapo City with friends. The Master of our laid-up cargo ship, the “MV Pacific Islander II” invited us onboard.

I did hesitate going there a few days before, thinking that holidaying is a waste of time & money and that I should utilized that long weekend – Monday being holiday [National Heroes Day] – for completing my pending office work. It wasn’t until I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and I saw my image as “stuck” – it was like I was frozen, too absorbed in my work, I can’t imagine living any other way.

Then and there I decided I wanted an exciting existence – an uncomplicated, full of adventure, enriching and slow life. By giving myself permission to leave my “cubicled life” and temporarily forget my deliverables, the introspection opened up an exciting alternative to what’s really important.
How about you, how do you downsize stress?

My First Bite of the Strawberry City

At last, after three failed plans to visit Baguio, I finally visited the famous summer capital of the Philippines and it was really fun. Here’s a quick look at our itinerary:

March 20, Friday

10:00 pm – 4:00 am : Bus Trip, tulug-tulugan, landian sa bus na sobrang lamig ng aircon.

March 21, Saturday

4:00 am – 6:00 am : Kulitan ulit, tulug-tulugan yung iba, pero kaming masisipag (he he) nagpunta ng palengke para mag picturan kahit madaling araw, bumili ng longganisa, slippers ni Radji, sanitary napkin ni July, maraming maraming itlog, mantika at kung ano ano pa…

6:00 am – 7:00 am : Breakfast muna, buti kasama namin si Chef Ryan (taga-luto he he) at ang kanyang ehemm… kabit na nagngangalang Gara (he he he.. Peace!!)

7:00 am – 10:00 pm : Trip to Strawberry Farm.

You can visit their website for more info: http://www.tamawanvillage.com

11:00 am – 12:00 pm : Stuck in Traffic. Sa buong buhay ko ngayon ko lang na-appreciate ang traffic kasi nagkaroon ako ng time para makatulog, isipin mong 3 hours lang tulog ko for two days, sa almost 1 hour na traffic, nakatulog ako, aba malaking tulong yun, kasi sobrang energy draining ang Baguio trip adventure namin na to.

12:00 pm – 1:30 pm : Lunch at Sab-atan.

1:30 pm – 2:00 pm : Baguio Death March.

2:00 pm – 3:00 pm : Rest Time.

3:00 pm – 6:00 pm : Mines View Park/ Good Shepherd Trip.

6:00 pm – 7:00 pm : Rest ulit. No Comment…. Hik hik hik

6:30 pm – 8:00 pm : SM Baguio.

8:00 pm - ------ : Rhum Cola Party with Atty.

“Bulag Sa Magdamag” starring Joann T.

“Pagpatong” starring Gara, with her famous line “Hindi lahat ng pumapatong ay may dahilan!!!” (sabay himas sa legs ni Bar)

“Responsableng Magsusuka” launching movie of July M. (as in July Makatas) with her famous line “Shits!! ang suka ko”

(PLEASE CLICK THE TITLE TO WATCH THE MOVIE PREVIEW)

March 22, Sunday
7:00 am – 8:00 am : Breakfast
8:00 am – 10:00 am : PMA

10:00 am – 11:30 am : The Mansion Kodakan Tour
11:30 am – 1:00 pm : Pasalubong Shopping
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm : Check-out
2:00 pm – : Back to reality

Where’s Ely? E-heads - The Final Set Concert

Last Saturday after my MIT class, I drag myself to Mall of Asia to watch the Eraserheads Reunion Concert. It starts at 8 pm and we entered the open field at around 8:15 – die-hard fans are already at the area as early as 3:00 pm, so it’s like there was no room for us anymore. We tried to squeeze ourselves into the crowd to get a view of, hmmm, just the wide screen for a 300-peso ticket - got pushed and we push back, got soaked with sweat, practically eat dust and almost died of suffocation. We tried but sadly didn’t make it to get a good view, towering Smart tents and stinking portalets are blocking the screen. So we decided to settle in at the gate area under an unknown tree together with all those bored looking students and a lot of dating couples, hugging and touching like it was a valentine concert.

This is just my personal opinion – the concert lacks the pumping energy I’m expecting. It is not because we don’t have a good view of the stage – but maybe because of the boring 30-minute commercial break or maybe because I’m still suffering from last night’s hang-over or maybe Ely is sick. I don’t know but the concert lacks spontaneity. Thanks to the fireworks!

Hey look at this guy, he paid 300 bucks just to sleep in Eheads concert, har har.. nice trip.

Siyempre papatalo ba naman kami. May sarili din kaming trip, eto o… we he he.

Beating the Heat at Bosay

The sun is angry again. After the unusually cold January and February, which was really nice, terrible afternoon heat waves are now visible on the streets like tiny transparent worms eagerly rising to reach the clouds. The mighty sun is determined to burn Metro Manila once again, like last year’s terrible summer. Bored, stressed and suffocated by summer heat – this is a perfect time for a resort gig. We checked out the Bosay Resort in Antipolo last Friday night after work. Set in Antipolo highland, the resort has a natural tranquility and laid back atmosphere. Videoke is up until 12:00 midnight only, a little “kill-joy” policy but it’s good somehow. Worth mentioning is our hand-made fresh salad for dinner and for pulutan. What made it especial? Well, just look at the pictures. He he he.
Here are some of my Kulit moments...

All Work and No Play Makes Yodz A Dull Boy

My co-wokers, belonging to generation X and Y, decided to have some barkada night out tonight in Cuba Libre, a cool bar near our office building. It was supposed to be just a casual dinner in SM Megamall but the group thinks that it was too boring so we decided to have some videoke gig and a few bottles of beer instead.

It was nice to have some chill out gig occasionally because monotonous work routine can cause boredom that leads to un-productive mindset. A few bottles of beer, videoke fun and barkada kulitan after work is worth like a week vacation for me.

This is also one thing I learned in my working life – if you do not love your work, love your co-workers. This will make your life easier.

Temporarily Losing My Soul

To escape with our daily routine during weekends, (that is eat-tambay-wash clothes-eat-tambay), me and my office buddies decided to have a little gig at E.K. Our aim is to defrost our sleeping nerves - frozen by work stress and boredom - via Enchanted Kingdom's nerve-wracking rides. It is an unplanned trip but well organized - hmmm I noticed that unplanned barkada trip is usually a hassle-free one. We decided renting an FX and bring our own food because stomach stuff inside the park can eat up your whole two-month's budget.

Weather is a little bit crazy that morning. While we are on our way to E.K., dark clouds hung above us, a rain-whole-day omen. It started pouring while we are on our way to the park and we are already discussing some alternatives like going to Tagaytay instead. We are willing to do a space shuttle ride even if it’s raining – which is of course a little bit life threatening – thus, we decided to go and take our chances. We think that, perhaps we can perform a little stop-the-rain tribal ritual dance for some ethnic rain-god so as not to ruin our plans.

But, yeah since the weather is a little bit crazy and confused that day, it decided to just leave us alone before we do some nasty tribal dance. I think the rain-god prefers to just leave us than see us perform the ritual dance or else she will give us a super-typhoon.

We had our lunch in the parking area and immediately started our spree. We are all frantic and excited. A ride-all-you-can ticket gives us the adrenaline rush which is evident in our faces. There’s no stopping us… even the rain-god.

And there comes the nerve wracking, soul splitting space shuttle ride. My physical body badly wants that ride, but I felt my soul is angrily refusing it. Despite that, I took the ride - three times. In the first two rides, my soul just temporarily left me. During the third space shuttle ride, I felt like I totally lost my soul.

We end up drained and exhausted but there’s that lingering smile in all of us .I got a dreamless sleep that night and woke up still wearing that wolfish grin . Overjoyed as Jo-ann puts it.

To my soul… I’m sorry.
